passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19th, 2017 at age 98. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 70 years, Rita Kastner Merkel. He is survived by his four loving children; Susan Merkel Summers of Springfield, VA, David Merkel of Forrestville, CA, Gordon M. Merkel II of Rochester, NY and Paula Merkel LaLopa of W. LaFayette, IN; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many loving family members and friends. Gordon was a member of the 121st Cavalry, Troop F, of Rochester, NY and WWII Army Veteran. A memorial Service will be held on Monday July 24th 2017 at 7PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Ave. Rochester, NY 14626.
