On Friday, November 30, 2018, at the age of 81, he went to his Lord peacefully at home with his loving family by his side.

Predeceased by his parents, John J. and Mary M. Donnelly Roethel; brothers John and wife May Roethel, Thomas and wife Laurel Roethel; sisters Florence DiMartino, Marilyn and husband Dale Fose, Barbara and husband Robert Bassage, Tina Farden, and sister-in-law Beverly Roethel.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Judith; sons Emory (Erica) Roethel, Jeremy (Laura) Roethel; special son Richard (Lisa) Stubbs; daughter Tammy Malone; brothers Donald Roethel and Gerald (Dixie) Roethel; brother-in-law Richard Farden; Grandchildren Bryce and Travis (with Jessica Roethel), Lily, Eloise, Emory, Alicia, Holly, Michael and Cole; many, many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

Jim was a long-standing member of St. John of Rochester in Fairport, St. John of Rochester Men’s Club, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served our nation for 7 years in the United States Army. He was most known for always greeting his customers with a hug or handshake at the Maplewood Inn and Cavalier Restaurant and for always making sure his family and friends always had enough to eat.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Thursday, December 6, from 3 to 7 PM for a celebration of Jim’s life at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave. A Veteran’s Service with full military honors will follow the celebration at 7 PM.

Mass will be offered at 12 noon on Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. John of Rochester, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport , NY 14450
