Joanna J. Ames

1945 - 2019
Hilton, New York
Passed in peace on Friday morning, February 22, 2019, with her children by her side. Preceded in death by her husband David Ames, sister Constance “Connie” Attridge, dear friend Betty Reisig, and feline friend JD.

Born in 1945 to George and Mary Bush, and survived by her Step-Mother Lois, Joanna was child number four of a family that would eventually grow to 21. Joanna graduated from Gates-Chili High School in 1963 and worked as a homemaker, mother, and office administrator up to and through her retirement. Joanna loved girl’s nights with her sisters, socializing with her friends, spending time with her grandchildren, and just enjoying the peace and tranquility of being at home.

Loving mother to Greg (Kathy) Gilluly, Sandy (Eric) Springle, and Matt (Maria) Gilluly.
Proud grandmother of Casey (Tom), Christopher, Kaitlyn, Logan, and adored great-grandmother to Jacob, Julianna, Hailey, and Eli.
Cherished sister to Georgianna (Mike), Diana (Bob), Mary Jane (Terry), George (Kathy), Robert, Mark (Sue), Dawn, Paul, Colleen, David, and Holly—along with many other step brothers and sisters.
Treasured friend to Sandy Caruso, her Stoneridge Animal Hospital family, first husband Don Gilluly, West Wautoma Beach neighbors and friends, and several nieces and nephews.

Through the later part of Joanna’s life, and especially through her recent illness, she had one very special companion, her dog Tanner. An icon in the neighborhood, rockstar at the animal hospital, friend to all he met, he will always be Joanna’s little angel.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in Joanna’s honor on Saturday, March 16, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at the Community of the Savior, 4 E. Henrietta Rd. Rochester, NY 14620. There will be no prior calling hours and interment will be private.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers please make a donation in honor of Joanna to Journey Home, 994 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY 14626.
