Mr. Eric “EJ” Martin Jr.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.” Isaiah 9:6

On Tuesday, April 16th, 2002, in Rochester, NY, our almighty God, Eric Martin Sr., and Brandy Smith brought forth into this world a ray of hope named, Eric Martin Jr.

Eric his father’s namesake and mother’s firstborn, was affectionately known as “EJ.” Our beloved EJ will be remembered for his bright smile and positive and energetic personality that lit every room he entered, NO matter where EJ was or whoever he was around. EJ always had a smile and could make everyone laugh, regardless of the day you were having. EJ received his education from the Rochester City District. He was a proud class of 2020 graduate of Edison Career and Technology school.

Like most men, EJ was an impeccable dresser who loved football and basketball. He was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. EJ could often be found playing his video games. EJ loved and was loved by everyone he came in contact with, especially family. He loved visiting his auntie Jackie's house raiding her refrigerator and making music with Cousin AJ. He could also be found hanging out with some of the fellas including Don q and wiz among others. He was very passionate about his music but most importantly he had a fierce love and devotion for his family. EJ was excited about the family that he created with the love of his life his fiancé Zialya. Together they will welcome a son in September.

EJ was a provider and protecter who worked tirelessly to build a legacy that we are all proud of. EJ was employed at the Blue Cross Arena, Seneca park Zoo and the Highmark Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills.

Our time with EJ was brief, but all can testify that our lives are better because God saw fit that EJ pass through this way.

On Wednesday, May 31st 2023 our God who makes no mistakes and declared that there will be triumph over tragedy ushered EJ’s beautiful soul from earth to glory as he was surrounded by family. EJ even transitioned the hero he walked as on earth, being an organ donor, he saved a life within 3 hours after donating.

He is pre deceased by his grandfather Henry M. Smith, his grandmother Angela Martin and uncle Clarence Hollins Jr. While EJ’s passing was indeed untimely, we resolve to cherish his memory and pour into his son, instilling him with a proud legacy of love honor and commitment trusting in the blessed and eternal hope that transcends death are his loving fiancé Zialya Palmer, who is carrying his namesake Eric Martin III , his proud father Eric (Christy) Martin Sr, his dedicated mother Brandy Smith, two brothers Brandon Forbes, Marlon Collins, two sisters, Armanii Forbes and Keyana Bealle, his grandfather Clarence Hollins, his grandmother Kawanais Smith, his godmother Lola Vazquez, EJ was an uncle to his nephew Jermell (bear) and Zola Barnes. Precious memories are also left by his loving aunts, Shawn Hicks, Andrea Martin, Tamala (TT) Smith, Tanisha Martin, Leilani (Lele) Hollins, Nakia (Nikki) Taylor, and his best friends Roshawn Nelson, Amir (KB) Rogers. EJ was blessed with an amazing village of cousins, friends, and loved ones.

“No farewell words were spoken no time to say Good-bye you were one before I knew it and only God knows why. My heart still aches and secret tears still flow, what it meant to lose you no one will ever know.” - Author Unknown
