Marie Burnet passed away peacefully at 3pm on November 15th, 2023, at the St Ann’s Care Center in Webster NY. Her son David, daughter-in-law Irene and daughter Kathy were by her side.

Marie was born January 26th, 1934, in NYC to parents Thomas and Marion Egan. Early in her life she moved with her parents to Oneonta, NY where she grew up. She attended Oneonta HS and then obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. After graduation, she worked for a time at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. While living in Cooperstown, she met her future husband, Loyly ‘Buzz’ Burnet.

Marie and Buzz married in 1958 and started their family of 4 in 1959. They moved to Delanson, NY in 1961. Marie pursued her nursing career working at Cobleskill and St Clair’s Hospitals. While her children were young, she and Buzz decided she would move to a career as a school nurse so her calendar would match that of her children. She gained an MA in education from Russell Sage and worked for the remainder of her career at Duanesburg Central High School as a School Nurse Teacher.

Marie retired in 1991 and sadly Buzz passed away in 1992. After his passing, she maintained many volunteer positions and frequently traveled with friends. In 2015, she moved from the Schenectady area to Webster, NY to be closer to her son David who lives in Rochester.

She lived a life devoted to her children providing them with memorable trips to national parks, supporting their many interests including 4-H and Boy Scouts. Her imprint and legacy lives on in her surviving family.

Marie is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Marion Egan and husband Loyly Burnet. She is survived by 4 children: David (Irene) of Rochester, NY, Anne (Carl) Sommer of St Louis, MO, Louise (Jean Michel) Munoz of Pau, France, and Kathy of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Jonathan Munoz, Robyn Munoz PhD, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Christopher Munoz, Judy (Michael) Fazi and Bec Sommer.
