Abby Louise (Gentile) Clapp passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2026 at the age of 40. Abby was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Clapp, and two young sons, Joey and Benny; her parents Joseph and Janet Gentile; sisters and brothers-in-law, Corey and Frank Kurz and Jaime and Langa Mchunu; brother-in-law Dylan Clapp; parents in-law Roger Clapp and Margaret Fagan. She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and lifelong friends.
Abby was born to Janet and Joseph Gentile in Boston, Massachusetts, the youngest of three daughters. She grew up in Irondequoit, New York, graduating from Irondequoit High School in 2003 and the University of Rochester in 2007. She earned her master’s degree in education from Nazareth University in 2009. She worked for the last 16 years as an elementary school teacher in Rochester, NY, most recently in the East Rochester Central School District. Abby met the love of her life, Joe, in 2007 and they married in 2014.
Abby had a great sense of humor and a huge heart. She loved going to the beach with her family, was an avid reader and puzzler, and loved spending time with her close group of childhood friends. Above all else, Abby was an amazing mother who loved her boys more than anything else in the world.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 22 from 1-3pm at New Comer Funeral Home at 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY. A funeral service will be held at Spiritus Christi Church, 121 Fitzhugh St N, Rochester, NY on Monday, August 24 at 10am. The funeral will be followed by coffee hour at Spiritus Christi Church. A celebration of life will also take place this weekend, with the timing and location to be announced.
