Bonnie L. Olscamp, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on December 18, 2024, at Patrick Place. Born on August 5, 1949, Bonnie lived a life rich with love, laughter, and resilience. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her.
After years of hard work and determination, Bonnie returned to school and earned her bachelor's degree in Human Resources from Roberts Wesleyan in 1993, a testament to her belief in lifelong learning. She dedicated her career to serving others as a Human Resource Manager at US Food Service, where she positively impacted countless lives through her compassion and understanding. Her commitment to her profession was mirrored in her personal life, demonstrating a deep-seated passion for helping others.
Bonnie's journey through life was not without its challenges. In 2009, she faced a battle with kidney cancer. Despite the hardships, she exhibited incredible strength, remaining positive and steadfast. Her battle with the disease became a journey of resilience and connection. After being free of evidence of the disease for 10 years, Bonnie was faced with another challenge in January 2020. Throughout these trials, she found support and hope in The Judy Nicholson Kidney Cancer Foundation, an organization that became near and dear to her heart. Bonnie not only benefited from their support but later became a vital part of their mission, advocating for others facing similar challenges. In 2024, her commitment was recognized when she was honored to join their board as the secretary.
Her vibrant personality shone through in every aspect of her life. Bonnie was known for her love of playing cards and her creative pursuits in crafts, knitting, and crocheting. She thrived on social connections, cherishing moments spent with family and friends. In good weather, she'd often relax with her beloved “Porch Possy,” enjoying the simple beauty of companionship and conversation.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Lisa (Hans Prok) and Randy; her cherished granddaughter, Anna; and her dear brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael (Linda), Anne Cafarella, John (Marie), Fran (Moira), and Maria (Chip) Taylor. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom brought joy to her life.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband of 51 years, Vincent; her beloved grandson, Jonathan Gibson; her father, Morgan McDermott; and her mother, Barbara Amet. Also preceding her in death were her brothers-in-law, Joseph Olscamp and Phillip Cafarella, along with many half and step-siblings.
Bonnie's legacy will live on through the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the love she imparted to those around her.
Her funeral services will be held on January 7, 2025, at New Comer Funeral Home, Westside in Rochester, NY, with visitation from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and a Memorial Service to follow at 3:00 PM.
