Bryson Alexander Sparrin went home to be with Jesus on April 4, 2013 while in the arms of his loving mother, Amanda. Bryson was born 13 weeks early and survived! We always knew he was impatient and a fighter! Bryson, who was fondly called "B" by all who knew him, lived much of his last year both at Golisano Children's Hospital in Rochester, NY and Children's Hospital in Boston, MA.
An energetic, loving friend to all, Bryson attended Schlegel Road Elementary School in Webster. He loved playing baseball with the Challengers and skating for Gliding Stars with the help of his cousin Ruby. Attending Joni and Friends camp in North Carolina every summer, especially riding the horses and climbing the rock wall gave him great joy. Swimming with his Uncle Rich, and playing games on the iPad were some of his most favorite things.
B loved to wear his PROUD t-shirts, and grab gel to spike his own hair. He would often sing at the top of his lungs and have dance parties with his team of nurses. He made all who entered his hospital room say "no pokes and no pinches" He always wanted his team to bring the treasure chest in so he could pick a present!
Bryson and his cousins were the best of friends, going to school together, playing games together, and of course enjoying movie night together. If the movie was not Cars, as long as B had the case to hold, he was thrilled! He loved to say goodnight to his Nana via Skype and tell her all about what new toys he wanted to add to his collection!
B was an amazingly strong young boy with a contagious smile; admired by all who knew him for his hopeful spirit in the face of many challenges. Bryson loved more than anything to cuddle with his mom and watch Nick at Nite while he fell asleep. The love B and Amanda shared was something special, something that will never be broken.
Bryson is survived by his mother, Amanda Sparrin; grandparents, Michael J. and Nancy Sparrin of Ilion, NY; great-grandmother, Ann Burton of Frankfort, NY; his aunts and uncles, Jessica (Rich) Salamone, Kathryn (Matt) Stewart of Virginia Beach, VA, Rebecca (Jon) Dummar of Northglenn, CO and Mike Sparrin; his cousins, Ruby, Tim, Claire and Caroline Salamone, Genevieve Stewart and Grace Dummar.
Special thanks to the staff of Golisano Children's Hospital, especially to Dr. Eric Biondi, and the Hospitalist team; Dr. Matthew Shields and the whole GI department; Unit 4-1600 for being our home away from home; the ICU staff for being so gracious and Dr. Stephen Tomek for fighting so hard for B in the end! Words can never express what you all mean to the family!
