Carol Jean (Borate) Vahue, 66, passed away on July 11, 2014 in Rochester, NY. She was born on July 18, 1947 in Rochester, NY to Edgar and Mildred (Metcalf) Borate.

Carol grew up in Rochester, NY where she attended East High School. As a child, Carol was very independent and always looking for an adventure. She acquired numerous pet animals and enjoyed riding horses. After high school, she briefly studied psychology at Monroe Community College and proudly managed the Continuing Developmental Services (CDS) Group Home in Rochester, NY for several years. In her later years, she took pride as a homemaker and renewed her Catholic faith at Holy Apostle Church.

Carol met Bernie J. Vahue in 1967 and married him 1981 in Rochester, NY. They remained happily in love for 47 years. Carol was devoted to sponsoring the Cheyenne Indian Reservation in North Dakota and sponsored Children for Christian Charities. Her passion for nature, animals and the outdoors took them to many parts of the United States. Her independent spirit led her to explore many interests in life. She enjoyed her dogs, gardening, painting, horseback riding, tattoo art, leather-crafting, Native American Indian culture & music and especially spending time with her family.

Carol is survived by her husband Bernie J. Vahue of Rochester, NY; her son Thomas (Robin) Schenk of Bergen, NY; her daughter Michelle (Jeff) Aldrich of Jasper, NY; her son Scott (Maree) Vahue of Palmyra, NY; her brother Robert Borate of North Fort Myers, FL; her sister Beverly Schultz-Joyce (Chuck) of Greensboro, NC; her grandchildren Keerstin Stepnowski, Jonathan (Ashleigh) Nolte, Jennifer Nolte, Justin Hawley, Kyle Hawley, Travis Hawley, Eric Hawley, Allen Aldrich, Damion Hawley, Christopher Hawley, Cody Hawley, Ty Aldrich, Steffany Vahue; great-grandchildren Jared Nolte, Ayden Hawley, Aaliyah Hawley, Austyn Hawley, Carsyn Hawley, Adalynn Hawley, Natocia Hawley, Ryan Hawley, Terigan Aldrich, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Family will receive friends 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM Wed., July 16th at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Ave., Rochester, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held Thurs., July 17th at 10:30 AM at Holy Apostle Church, 530 Lyell Ave., Rochester, 14606.
