Carol Lee Ann Locigno (née Polizzi)

February 25, 1942 — October 18, 2024

ROCHESTER, NY: It is with sadness that we announce that Carol Lee Ann Locigno (née Polizzi) passed, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, coupled with complications from vascular dementia, on Friday, October 18, 2024, at age 82, at Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport, in Brockport, NY. Her parents predeceased Carol, Dominic A. (Don) Polizzi (1918 - 1980), and Anita T. Polizzi (née Minoia) (1922 - 2018). Carol is survived by her former husband, Santo (Sandy) F. Locigno (wife, Maryann Doherty Rafferty Locigno); two children, Theresa M. (Teri ) Locigno Jefferson (husband, Billy A. Jefferson) of Williston, SC., and Anthony S. (Tony) Lo Cigno [wife, Sandra J. (Sandy) Lo Cigno, née Uebelacker], of Webster. Also, she is survived by 7 grandchildren, Tony Saunders (wife Jennifer Bannister Saunders), and Jennie Saunders Perkins (husband Joe Perkins) all from South Carolina; Mary, Carli, Tessa, Paul, and Sam Lo Cigno, all from Rochester. Additionally, Carol is survived by 7 great-grandchildren (Carson Saunders, Mickenna Saunders, Ava Saunders, Alivia Saunders, Drew Bennett, Kylie Perkins, Addison Perkins), and 3 step-great-grandchildren, Brycin Azelkas, Ryley Azelkas, and Aidan Andrews, all from South Carolina. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Joseph M. Polizzi, and two sisters, Donna A. Tijou (née Polizzi) (husband, Charlie Tijou), and Mary L. Masters (née Polizzi) (husband, Tom Masters).

Born on February 25, 1942, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, Carol was the eldest of four children born to Don and Anita Polizzi. Her parents lived at 202 Saratoga Ave at the time of her birth, and her paternal grandparents were first-generation Americans, emigrating from Villarosa, in the Province of Enna, Sicily, in the early 1900s. When Carol was a toddler, her parents moved to California, due to her father’s asthma. They lived in a house that her great-uncle owned. They were neighbors with Humphrey Bogart. She also lived briefly in Albuquerque, NM, on two occasions. Carol attended John Marshall High School and graduated on June 1, 1960. Carol met her future husband, Sandy Locigno, in the summer of 1956 while visiting her family’s cottage in West Port Bay, NY. She was 14 and he was 15 years old, at the time. Carol and Sandy’s parents had cottages less than one mile from one another. Sandy and Carol married on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1960, at Holy Rosary Church, in Rochester. They had two children, Teri, and Tony, born in Rochester. Carol, her husband Sandy, and their children relocated to Fort Collins, CO in February 1976, while Sandy was employed by Eastman Kodak Company. Carol worked in the school cafeteria for several schools in the local school district in Fort Collins. They would stay there until January 1985, when Carol and Sandy relocated, again with Kodak, to Rochester. They divorced in July 1990. Carol would work part-time for JC Penney, Holy Cross Church, and was an Avon representative. Carol loved and enjoyed her dog, and trusted companion, Chloe, for nearly 19 years. She was an expert at making her special iced tea, calling it “Carol Lee’s Chicky Baby Iced Tea”, and was a voracious reader.
