Carole C. Conte passed away peacefully on Saturday May 24, 2025 surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. Cancer has lost, Carole has won. She was our Matriarch, protector and our inspiration.
Carole is predeceased by her husband Edward T. Conte, mother Pauline (Kelly) Burns, sister Marie (Charles) Ryan, Step-son Edward R. (Sandra) Conte, mother in-law Cora (Edward A.) Conte. Sisters in-law, Josephine (Anthony) Lucia, Florence (Nicholas) Dargento and Bertha Cook. Her niece, Jenny Ryan, nephews, Chuck Ryan and Frank Dargento. And, her best friends, Barbara VanTyne and Thelma Gaughan.
Carole is survived by her daughters, Jan (John Kelly) Conte and Jill (Andre Scott) Coakley and step-son Timothy (Rosemary) Conte. Grandchildren, Carroll Coakley Jr, Keara Coakley, Cameron Coakley and Amir Sanders. Great grandchildren, Chris and Kaylee. Many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great -great grandchildren. Also, her furry grandchildren, Scruffy, and Birdie. Many nieces and nephews. Her dear friends, Kevin and Karen Corke, and their family, Janet Erbach-Behrend, and Lee.
Carole began her career at Rochester Telephone Company, leaving there to start her family. She is a retiree from the Rochester City School District where she worked as a paraprofessional, devoting herself to making a difference in children’s lives. Her dedication to her work and the difference she made was reflected each time she ran into someone at Wegmans who proclaimed “Don’t you remember me, I went to 29 School”. They would then give her a big hug of gratitude and update her on their lives while they stood in the check out line.
Carole loved music, especially Patsy Cline, Tom Jones, Willie Nelson and Rod Stewart. She loved to sit on her lawn chair in front of her garage and watch her neighbors as they went about their lives. She loved cheesecake, anything chocolate and Russell’s Ice Cream. She loved dining out, especially at Stone’s Countryside Tavern (Hot Roast Beef Sandwich), Bella Pasta (Ravioli), Olive Garden (Too many to list) and Bill Gray’s (Cheeseburger). Carole’s favorite color was purple.
Carole was devoted to her family and friends. She loved to be surrounded by them on the weekends, eating all kinds of her favorite foods and hoping to get in a quick game of cards, demonstrating her fierce competitive nature.
Carole cared for her husband, Ed, in their home until he passed away. Her loyalty and dedication to his care was astounding but not surprising, Carole and Ed were married for close to 50 years when he passed away in 2008.
Carole had a quick wit, a sarcastic streak and a generous heart. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for someone she loved. Recently she began giving to Open Door Mission for the holiday meal drives for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter and asked that we continue to do this each year in her honor. We ask that you consider doing the same. She said at least she knew that those less fortunate would have a warm meal on the holidays.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Carole’s honor to Open Door Mission and Lipson Cancer Center.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Carole’s medical team.
