Carolyn grew up in Rochester, attending St. Andrew’s, Our Lady of Mercy, and Rosary Hill College. She moved with her best friend Lucy to the DC area, where she met her husband, Greg. They shared 12 years of marriage and twin daughters. Following his death in 1985, she moved the family to Rochester, where she had the support of the girls' grandparents, aunts and uncles. Even so, solo parenting took great strength, great softness and great faith in the Lord's promise to provide for widows and orphans.
In her long career, she has taught hundreds of children. But more than phonics and penmanship, she loved to teach the faith. Her favorite grade was second, which she taught for many years at St. John’s in Spencerport, because it included guiding her students through First Reconciliation and Communion. She shared with them her own childlike joy in simple pleasures like bubbles, kaleidoscopes and interesting rocks. She was dedicated and creative, designing the most innovative games and displays.
She retired in 2001 to devote herself to being "Mama" to her grandchildren. She often said that her best times were spent providing daycare, taking kids to museums and the YMCA, homeschooling and tutoring them when little, and watching them grow. She is lovingly remembered by many friends. She found fellowship in the Focalare community shortly after moving to Rochester. She was called to the Secular Franciscan Order and served her fraternity as minister for several years. Sharing time and faith with family and friends was a great joy and comfort to her.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am Thursday, December 12, 2024 at St. Pius Tenth Church, 3010 Chili Ave., followed by a gathering at the parish hall.
