Charles "Charlie, Pete " Petersen
Greece: Left us on June 1, 2015 at the age of 93. He was a generous volunteer, who served others in a wide variety of roles. He began during and following WWII with the Civil Air Patrol, maintaining communications between Rochester and an Army Air Force base. He then spent 39 years on active duty with the Barnard Fire Department, fighting fires, running missions of mercy as a medic and an ambulance driver, playing key roles in the Department's fund raisers, and was also a past Department president; in addition, he was a 66 year member of the Barnard Exempt Firemen's Association. Charlie was an active AARP member where he taught a defensive driving course and served as Membership Co-Chairman for the Greece Chapter, and increased its membership by a factor of 10. He also served as a docent for several organizations, including the Greece Historical Society, and was recognized by the Town of Greece as a 2005 Volunteer of the Year. He spent many decades as a Mason and was active with their programs as well.
He is survived by his loving companion of 28 years, Fran Teahan; his daughter Diann (Tom) Meek; his stepdaughter Chris (Ron) Ritzma; and stepsons Bob (Karen) and George (Pat) Harrison. His grandchildren are Vikki Meek, Alana (Bill) Roberts; Ann (Mike) Miller; Roger (Jill) Ritzma; Amy (Pat) Callery; and George and Scott Harrison; there are also 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may call at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626 on Monday, June 8, from 4 to 7 PM. His Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 9 at the Funeral Home, followed by burial at St. Johns Cemetery in Spencerport, New York.
