Dan Zollweg, 67, of Rochester, passed away on April 18, 2026, after a short battle with Esophageal Cancer.
Dan was predeceased by his parents Lois and Richard Zollweg Sr.; his sisters, Carolann Kaleta McDade, Joyce Park (Tim), and Catherine Zollweg; and his nephew Mark Kaleta. Dan is survived by his brothers, Richard, Kenneth, and Timothy, and sister Margaret Cole (Brad). Dan was a favorite uncle of Sylvia Dulnik (Steve), Christy Tanski (Mike), David Park, Timothy Park (Nancy), Emily Combs (Gary), and Lindsey Kaleta. Laramie, Jacob, and Jamison Cole were his younger niece and nephews, and Dan enjoyed following their many activities. Dan became much closer to the family during his illness through texts, phone calls, and visits.
Dan spent the last 13 years with his cherished life partner, Shelly Sulenski, and had a great relationship with her family. Shelly and Dan enjoyed yearly vacations to the beach, touring Washington D.C., and going to baseball games at Camden Yards. Dan maintained a friendly relationship with his first wife, Tracy. Dan left behind many cherished neighbors, friends, co-workers, and also his two special pups Oreo and Patty.
Dan was best known for his passion for working in retail, and this year, he celebrated 50 years in that profession. His first job at 17 was at Star Market. Many other retail positions followed through the years, and his most recent job was at the Wegmans Lyell Ave store.
Dan had a great sense of humor; he was witty. He liked to watch comedies. One of his favorite movies was SlapShot from 1977, which featured his favorite sport, hockey.
Dan was a quiet person and did not push himself on you. If you took the time to get to know him, you would realize that he knew about a lot of different topics: birds, weather, and sports were some of his favorites.
Dan was a very kind and humble person. He took care of his sister, Catherine, who lived with him over the years, and he was with her when she was sick at the end of her life. So many people remember Dan because of his non-judgmental, thoughtful, and hard-working nature.
Daniel's memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 3:00 PM at New Comer Funeral Home Westside Chapel, 2636 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626.
