David L. Marshall passed away on Saturday, November 2nd in Rochester, New York surrounded by loved ones. David is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Carol; his daughter Dawn; sisters Florence Dickerson Lane of Rochester, New York and Sheron (Ben) Ortiz of North Carolina; brothers Eugene Dickerson of Rochester, New York and James (Jannette) Spencer of Florida; sisters-in-law Suzanne Lee and Bridgette Moss-Phillips. David’s family would also like to acknowledge Jennifer Kelley and her family, as well as Bob Rose and George Schultes, and our many friends and neighbors for their love and support during this difficult time.
Born in Rochester, New York, David graduated from Madison High School in 1960 and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Earning a rank of Corporal, he served four years of active duty and an additional two years in the Reserves. Following his time in the service, David went on to earn an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Monroe Community College. David also attended SUNY Brockport, majoring in Business and Administration and obtained several certificates pertaining to security and leadership training.
After moving to Chili, New York with Carol in 1983, David established a Process Serving business known as Marshall and Marshall Agency. He assisted law firms and other businesses with investigative work, and identifying potential weaknesses within their security systems. He trained new investigators, worked surveillance, and amazed everyone around him with his exceptional ability to locate anyone on this Earth.
In his younger years, David and various friends competed in racquetball games and tournaments at the local “Y”. He also frequented the Firing Pin Shooting Range and the Four Point Rod and Gun Club with dear friend and neighbor, George Schultes. Throughout the years he loved to garden in the yard and was always there to help his wonderful neighbors with anything. David’s other passions included his love of music especially jazz singer Nancy Wilson and Willie Nelson, and watching James Bond movies and westerns. He was also very fond of all things Snoopy and has an amazing collection of Snoopy memorabilia.
When he wasn’t working in the yard, “Marshall” as he was known, was usually at the Chili Senior Center. There he loved to compete in anything he could … poker, pool, Mahjong, Dominoes, and chess to name a few. His sarcastic comebacks and bright smile will be missed by so many friends. David’s family would like to extend a warm thank you to the Chili Senior Center for being such a positive part of his life.
In June of 2023 David flew to Washington, DC with the Honor Flight of Rochester. This trip was very special to him and he was extremely grateful to have experienced it. In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations to Honor Flight Rochester, Inc. at honorflightrochester.org
