Donald J. Cragg

Donald J. Cragg, 79, of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on February 4, 1946, Don was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a man whose quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Don was the youngest of four boys and was born a twin. Sadly, his baby sister passed away shortly after birth. When Don was just four years old, his father passed away. He was lovingly raised by his mother alongside his three older brothers—all of whom, along with his mother, have predeceased him. Despite early hardships, Don grew up with a strong sense of resilience, loyalty, and humility—qualities that defined his life.

After graduating from high school, Don answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served four years as a medic at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. Though he repeatedly requested to serve in Vietnam, his service remained stateside. Don's time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to helping others.

Upon returning home to Rochester, Don met the love of his life, Marie. They were married on September 2, 1972, and shared 48 devoted years together. Don was a dedicated family man and caregiver. When Marie became ill, he took early retirement from his position as a senior design draftsman at Lightnin Mixing Equipment Co., where he had worked for 33 years. For the next 15 years, he selflessly cared for Marie until her passing in 2020.

Don is survived by his sons, Michael Cragg (Jennifer Cragg) and Brian Cragg (Angela Cragg); his beloved granddaughter, Morgan Cragg; and many other cherished relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie; his mother; his three brothers; his twin sister; and his father.

Don will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family, his quiet yet unwavering love, and the way he showed his care not through words, but through a lifetime of actions. He was a great provider, a gentle soul, and a true example of strength through humility.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family will receive friends 5-7pm Tuesday May 27, 2025 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd. (next to Donut's Delight) Irondequoit. Don's funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 10 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment Parma Union Cemetery.
