GEIER, DOUGLAS RAYMOND
Ithaca:
Douglas Raymond Geier, 65, passed away suddenly at Rochester General Hospital with his family by his side on December 10, 2015. Born in Rochester on January 11, 1950. Doug was predeceased by his mother, June (Werner) Geier and his father, Raymond Douglas Geier. Doug is survived by his children, Derek Douglas Geier, Ashley Anne Geier, grand-daughter Ava Grace Geier, Life Partner Adrienne A. Stearns, her children, Jenna K. Stearns, Joshua C. Stearns (Erica Carlson) grandchildren, Toby and Kai Stearns as well as longtime best friend, Jim Kelly, special cousins and extended family.
Doug attended East Ridge High School in Rochester (Class of 1968) and Bethany College (Class of 1973) in West Virginia where he played soccer and sang in the college choir. He returned to Rochester after college and worked at many different jobs in the Rochester area, primarily in sales and marketing for industrial equipment companies, until his retirement in July of 2015.
He touched many lives and was loved by many. His family was most important to him. He was passionate about life, whether it was golfing with his buddies, gardening with his daughter, going to movies with his son, playing with his grandchildren , hiking with dog Zoey or traveling to his second home in Costa Rica with his beloved Adrienne. He had a smile and a laugh that would light up a room. He loved to share jokes and tell stories about his life. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Whether it was helping move furniture, fixing some plumbing problem or installing a light switch,- he knew what to do and was happy to help. He especially liked doing woodworking and projects for Adrienne. He planted a yearly garden and remodeled her kitchen, built a garden shed and many other home repairs over their 15 years together. He truly was a jack of all trades.
Doug had a way with animals, He was an "animal whisperer" of sorts, whether it was a bird a horse, an alpaca or a dog, he could communicate with them in such a way as to make them feel safe. His first dog, Putter came from Lollypop Farm Animal Rescue. Therefore in lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road Fairport, NY 14450 http://www.lollypop.org . Alternatively, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. http://www.diabetes.org/in-my-community/local-offices/rochester-new-york/
