Ellen E. Price (Toal)
Batavia/Rochester: Passed away on September 8th, 2012, at 91 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Horace B. Price, and infant son, Raymond. Ellen was born in February 1921, to Arthur and Matilda (Barrett) Toal in Pavilion, NY, and was preceded in death by her siblings, Dwight, Edsal, Harold, Gladys and Wayne. Ellen is survived by daughters, Mary Mitchell of Rochester, NY, Linda (William) Guernsey; granddaughters, Rebecca Guernsey, all of Unionville, CT, Anne Guernsey (Jayson Farrell) New Britain, CT, Lisa Guernsey (Dr Nicolas Agrait); and great-grandson, Gustavo Agrait, Brooklyn, NY. Ellen is also survived by brother-in-law, Melvin Price; sisters-in-law, Joy Toal and Joyce Covert; plus many nieces and nephews.
Growing up on the family farm in Batavia, NY, Ellen met HB at a church picnic and they married in 1944. She was a 'Rosie the Riveter' during WWII while HB served in the US Navy aboard the USS Swenning, DE394. They moved to Rochester to raise their family; HB worked at Tobin Packing Co for over 25 years. In the 1960s, Ellen and HB were active in the Country Twirlers square dance club. For most of her life, Ellen was a child care provider to many families. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Chili, NY, she was devoted to HB, her family and her faith. Ellen was a true example of the Greatest Generation. Special thanks to Lifetime Care for their care of Ellen and in particular, to her special caregiver, Janet.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 11th from 6-8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 6 Empire Blvd. Where Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, September 12th at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
A Memorial Service at the Cornerstone Federated Church will be scheduled at a later date
