EUGENE J. GARIBALDI
Rochester, New York. Formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida, age 93, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 after a long illness.
A graduate of Albany High School and Albany Business College, Eugene served as a Captain in the US Army, stationed in the Pacific during World War II; he retired from the United States Civil Service Commission in 1974, following a 28 year career as an Investigator.
He is the son of the late Joseph P. and Viola (Murray) Garibaldi, and father-in-law to the late John A. Calandra and William J. Fitzgerald. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Eugenia Kuzniar. Gene and Jeanie, both avid tennis players, met at the Washington Park Tennis Courts, fell in love and married in 1940 continuing "their match" for 57 years until her passing in 1997.
He is survived by his three children, David E. Garibaldi, of Charlestown, Mass., Linda G. Fitzgerald of Loudonville, NY/Venice, FL and Barbara J. Calandra of Rochester, NY. In addition, he is survived by his three grandchildren, Courtney Fitzgerald (Robert F. O'Brien III) of Boston, MA, Ryan J. Fitzgerald (Kerri) of New York City and Phillip J. Calandra of Rochester, NY. He was great-grandfather of Grace O'Brien, Kailyn and Molly Ryan Fitzgerald.
Services for Gene will be held at Graceland Cemetery, 680 Delaware Ave., Albany, NY 12209 on Saturday, September 22nd at 11 AM.
Gene's family would like to thank the loving staff at the Friendly Home Memory Care Unit and Hospice (Rochester, NY) for the compassion and devotion they showed Eugene.
