Gary Kenneweg

Gary Kenneweg, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 80. Gary lived a life full of passion, adventure, and love that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Gary's commitment to service was exemplified by his years in the Navy, where he dedicated himself to his duties with honor and pride. Following his military service, he found joy in the exhilarating slopes, becoming an avid skier and a respected member of the ski patrol at Swain Mountain for many years. His love for adventure extended beyond skiing, as he also developed a fascination with radio-controlled planes, often spending hours perfecting his flying skills and captivating those around him with his enthusiasm.

In addition to his adventurous spirit, Gary possessed a profound love for nature that blossomed into a remarkable passion for gardening and plants. This passion inspired him to open his own business, Perennial Pastimes, where he shared his knowledge and love for plants with the community. Many weekends saw Gary at the farmers' market, where his warmth and kindness endeared him to customers and fellow vendors alike.

Gary’s creativity also shone through in his architectural endeavors. He designed and built a beautiful A-frame home and a charming ski chalet, creating spaces filled with love and laughter for his family to gather and enjoy throughout the years. His hard work at Kodak paved the way for these passions, which he pursued diligently after a long and fulfilling career at the company.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith, who was his steadfast companion through life's journey. Together, they created a family filled with warmth and tenderness. Gary is also survived by his children: David (Patty) Kenneweg, Michele (Kevin) Lorraine, and Tammy (Charles) Wilmier, who carry forward his spirit in their own lives. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were sources of immense pride and joy for Gary, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Further embracing the tapestry of his life, Gary is survived by his sister, Judith (Bruce) Sturm, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, and a beloved canine companion, Sasha.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helene Kenneweg, Gary’s life was a beautiful reflection of love nurtured and friendship forged across a lifetime. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the joy he brought into the world, the adventures he embraced, and the love he shared so freely with those he held dear.
