Geniva Harris

Geniva Harris was called home on the morning Of Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Geniva was born on November 13, 1939, in pace, Mississippi, to the late Herbert and Maggie McCadney. She received her formal education through the Mississippi public school system. In the 1960s, Geniva moved to White Plains, New York, where she pursued a career in nursing. She later relocated to Rochester, New York, where she continued building a life centered around caring for and helping others.

Geniva worked at ABC Center as a teacher and later operated her own private daycare. Caring for children was an important part of her life and work. In her free time, Geniva enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and cooking. These were some of the many ways she shared her time, talents, and creativity with those around her.

Geniva will be lovingly remembered by her children, Charles (Cynthia), Joyce (Henry), ShaQuann, Wllliam, Lynette (Brannon), Lynn, and Tremain; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; her godson, Marcus "Cubby" Mister; her goddaughter, Taylor Garrett; and many other relatives and loved ones.

Geniva was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Maggie McCadney; her siblings, Etta Mae, L.C., Ella Essie, Houston, Herbert, Charles, and Jack; and her granddaughters, Latoya and Shanesha.

Her memory will remain in the hearts of her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Family will receive friends 10:00 am - 11:00 am Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Boulevard, where her Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment at Riverside Cemetery.
