George James Costa, age 73, of Brighton, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
George was born in Philadelphia, PA and was familiarly known as "Ace" in high school. He served in the US Army for 6 years, rising to the rank of Pvt. 1st Class. He then earned an Electrical Engineering degree, which he applied while working for Rochester Instrument Systems from 1964-1981. He then co-founded Adtech, where he worked until 2006 when he retired.
George is predeceased by his wife of 41 years and the love of his life, Sharon Costa, parents Dimitri and Theodora Costa, and sister Marian Stathe. He is survived by his children Jennifer (Jim) Geedy and Jeffrey (Sherrie) Costa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Always good-humored and compassionate, George could always be found providing help and guidance to everyone he met. He was generous with his knowledge and time and possessed a wicked sense of humor. He was the "grease" that kept the neighborhood wheels turning. Many have called him the "nucleus" of the neighborhood. His favorite hobbies included humming, cars, electronics and patrolling bare-chested through the neighborhood. In his later years, web research, making copies of articles, and sending email messages became his more sedentary passions. He enjoyed travelling throughout his life.
George worked very hard to provide for his family and instill confidence and values in his children. He taught them the importance of working hard and not giving up, and always had a high expectation/no limitation philosophy on life.
George could always be found tinkering and fixing things at home, and would always try to repair a broken item before spending money to purchase a new one. To that end, he always had the tool/part/piece you needed for a repair job, and the expertise to tell you how to fix it. This was his way of "giving back" to his friends and neighbors, and helping make their lives easier while saving them money.
In keeping with the George's wishes, there will be no funeral services. Sympathies may be expressed by contributing to The American Cancer Society in his name.
A special thanks to family and friends who provided support during this very difficult time.
