Mavis, George W. (WA2UIB)
Greece: May 23, 2013 at age 87. He is predeceased by his parents, Alex and Elly Mavis. Survived by his wife, Joan of 61 years; son, Dean (Sharon) Mavis of McDonough, GA; daughters, Becky Bigler of Farmington, NY and Beverly Sutphin of Manassas, VA; and 8 grandchildren, Ryan and Brett Bigler, Megan, Katie and Charlie Sutphin, Deanna, Alexander and Morgan Mavis; and a cousin, Eddie (Kathy) Reichwald.
George served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He graduated from Syracuse University with his Electrical Engineering Degree. He was employed by Stromberg Carlson for 11 years and retired from Eastman Kodak after 28 years of service.
He had his professional engineering license, his private pilot's license and was a HAM radio operator. He had many hobbies including photography, woodworking, computers and model railroading as well as building radio controlled model airplanes and boats. George and his family enjoyed travelling the US, camping and after retirement with an RV.
He was a wonderful loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by us all.
Friends and family may call Wednesday May 29, 2013, 3-7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue. His Funeral Service will follow at 7 PM. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
