Passed away on October 9, 2015 at 82 years old.
Gwen made her transition peacefully after a courageous battle against several ailments.
She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert P. Turner, who made his transition two years ago--almost to date.
Gwen is survived and deeply missed by her son, Robert P. Turner, Jr. Esq., her daughter-in-law, Karen Bailey Turner, Esq., Elaine McLeod Von Grizzle (Karen's mother/Robert's mother-in-law) and many close and dear friends.
Gwen was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Bennett College, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Greensboro, North Carolina. While in college she traveled to Europe and studied in Germany as a Fulbright Scholar.
Unbeknownst to Gwen, while she was at Bennett College her future husband Robert was simultaneously attending college in North Carolina at St. Augustine's University, a fellow HBCU in Raleigh. They later met and fell in love as graduate students at the University of Kansas.
After graduation and marriage they moved to Robert's hometown of Rochester, NY where they raised their son Robert, Jr. Among other places, Gwen worked at the Eastman Dental Center, First Federal Savings & Loan and retired from Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E).
Calling hours for Gwen will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 6 Empire Boulevard in Rochester.
A funeral service and celebration of her life will follow at 12:30 p.m..
