Homer Denton Weissend
GREECE: Peacefully May 18, 2015, age 91, after a brief illness. Homer was a hard-working, satisfied man who didn't want or need more in life than his home and family, except for a pony and hot dog stand. His happiness came from his wife of 68 years, Joy; his two daughters Nancy (Ron) Hendershot and Janet Weissend, and grandsons Mark (Sinoun) Parina, Brett (Julie Dugan) Hendershot, Ryan (Nicole) Parina, and Steven (Jessie Miller) Parina. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren and having reunions with his many siblings, nieces and nephews. Homer came from a large family; he is predeceased by his 11 brothers and sisters. He was a Kodak retiree, US Army Air Force WWII veteran, a past grand master of Teoronto Lodge #8 (Odd Fellows), and former member of the Chorus of the Genesee (SPEBSQSA, the Barbershop Harmony Society ).
Homer liked hot soup, music, birds, reading, old movies, traveling, and cocktails with Joy. He enjoyed family get-togethers with homemade clam dip, shrimp, and popcorn. His family will always remember his strength, generosity, wit, and sense of humor. Homer loved his family and he will be forever missed.
Homer's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Crimson Ridge Assisted Living for the love and compassion shown to both Homer and Joy over the past two years. The family also thanks Unity Hospital and Transitional Care Center for their kind attention during Homer's final weeks.
