James A. Andrews, whose vibrant life began on August 25, 1926, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, just shy of his one hundredth birthday. As we contemplate the remarkable span of his nearly a century on earth, we are moved by a legacy marked by quiet strength, steadfast character, and an unwavering devotion to those whose lives intertwined with his own.

James lived through an era of sweeping change and bore witness to the dawn of technological marvels, historic trials, and societal transformations. Yet, it was the constancy of his presence and the warmth of his spirit that truly defined him. A man of principle and dignity, James carried himself with a gentle humility matched only by his resolute sense of purpose.

Those fortunate enough to have encountered James will remember his gracious manner and thoughtful counsel. His journey was shaped not by grand gestures, but rather by small acts of kindness that echoed deeply in the hearts of neighbors, friends, and all who crossed his path. With wisdom gathered from a lifetime well-lived, he found joy in witnessing the growth of his community and took great care to uplift and inspire with his actions and words.

He was predeceased by his parents Wennie and Phobie Andrews, one son, Mark Andrews, one son-in-love, Thomas Barrett; two brothers, Raleigh Andrews and Anthony Andrews; two sisters, Francis Medlock and Anne Ruth Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Bessie Andrews; children, James Andrews, Jr, Gail Andrews-Barrett, Rosalyn Andrews-Foxmoor, Carol Andrews, Tonya Andrews, Tyrone Andrews, Sr. and one adopted daughter, Marsharee Burgess; 21 Grandkids, 32 Great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; four Godchildren, Aaron Jessup, Melissa Jessup, Monique Jones, and Brenda Kearney; two brothers, Robert (Lorie) Andrews; Raymond Andrews; four sisters, Mary Bates, Emma Bonham, Mildred Glover, Margaret Cheeks, four sister-in-laws; three brother-in-laws and a host of other relatives and friends.

In honoring James A. Andrews, we find ourselves reflecting not only on the passage of time, but on the value of integrity, love, and quiet perseverance. His memory endures in moments shared, stories told, and the legacy of service and honor he leaves behind.

Friends and all whose lives were touched by James are invited to gather in remembrance. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Goodwill Baptist Church, located at 111 Clifton Street, Rochester, NY 14611, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location, commencing at 11:30 AM and concluding at 1:30 PM, as we bid farewell to a most distinguished life.

Though James A. Andrews is gone from our sight, the gentle strength of his spirit remains as an enduring testament to a life richly and meaningfully lived.
