Jacqueline M. Ashton, age 97, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026. Born on May 31, 1929, Jacqueline lived a remarkable life marked by hard work, service to her community, unwavering advocacy, and deep devotion to family and friends.
A longtime resident of Spencerport and Sea Breeze, Jackie was known for her strong spirit, generous heart, and determination. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Irene Dietrich; her husband, John Ashton; her partner, Joseph Walt Kaltenbach; her siblings, Bernice (Norberg) Bott, Melvin (Betty) Dietrich, Ruth (Joseph) Gambetta, Carol (Bill) Clark, and Mary Ellen (Earl) Prevost; and her beloved children, Dean Ashton, Bruce (Thomas) Ashton and Dawn (Jerry) Ogden.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Jason (Christine) Ashton and Christopher Ashton; great grandchildren, Bailey and Camden Ashton, Tyler, Carter, Vinny, and Arthur Ashton, along with many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends, and extended family members who will forever treasure her memory.
Jackie was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, owning and operating the Spencerport Inn. She dedicated 20 years of service to Eastman Kodak before continuing her career at Kinko's, where she worked for an additional 10 years before officially retiring. Her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident throughout her professional life.
Community service was a cornerstone of Jackie's life. She was a past member of the Sea Breeze Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of the Spencerport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an past member of the Ferris Goodridge Post 330 Ladies Auxiliary, supporting veterans and community initiatives throughout the years.
A passionate advocate for equality and social justice, Jackie served as Past President of the Rochester Chapter of the National Organization for Women and as Past Chairperson of the Town of Gates Democratic Committee. She was a fierce believer in women's rights and remained actively engaged in marches, political campaigns, and advocacy efforts well into her eighties, inspiring others through her courage, conviction, and dedication to creating a more equitable world.
Jackie will be remembered for her independent spirit, sharp wit, tireless energy, tenacity, and willingness to stand up for what she believed in. Her legacy lives on through her family, her community involvement, and the countless lives she touched through friendship, service, and advocacy.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that her strength, compassion, and determination will continue to inspire future generations. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered at a later date.
