Listen to Obituary

Jean left us on May 31, 2026, after an extended illness. She was born in Stowe, VT, the oldest of four children of Donna and George Magoon. The family eventually moved to Colchester, VT, where she met the love of her life, Charlie Penoyer. After graduating from Burlington High School, Jean went on to receive a degree from the University of Vermont. Jean and Charlie married in June of 1957, then moved to Rochester, NY, so Charlie could attend the Rochester Institute of Technology. They eventually moved to Penfield, NY, and raised their family, enjoying 67 years of marriage together.

Mom was an avid weaver for several decades. She enjoyed being a member of the Weavers’ Guild of Rochester and served as guild librarian for many years.

In addition to weaving, she loved gardening, traveling on the back of Charlie’s motorcycle, and camping. In later years, Jean and Charlie camped in a seasonal trailer in the Finger Lakes region.

Jean is predeceased by her husband, Charlie; her parents, George and Donna Magoon; sisters Coralie and Julia; and brother Robert. She is survived by daughter Donna (Warren) and son Curt (Cherie). Donna and Curt would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center.
