Jeffrey D. Gorwaiz

Jeff Gorwaiz, a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 1, 2026. Preceded in death by his beloved parents, George and Phyllis Gorwaiz, and his loyal companions, Brandy, Winston, and Blackjack, Jeff leaves behind a legacy of love dedication and passion.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Lora Bauman-Gorwaiz, who stood by him through life's journey. Mother in law, Diane Bauman. His sisters, Cindy with her husband Rob Bolton, and Sherry with her husband Walt Scott, shared many cherished moments together. Nieces and nephew, Kimberly with her husband Tim Smith, Julie with her husband Richard Rowlands, and Andrew with his wife Leah Bolton, as well as several great-nieces and nephews, hold his memory close to their hearts. His absence will be profoundly felt by many dear friends and colleagues at the University of Rochester.

Jeff's enthusiasm for life was evident in his passions. A fervent supporter of the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals, his love for hockey was matched by his dedication to NASCAR, where Denny Hamlin was his favorite driver. His adoration extended to the New York Mets, the Rochester Red Wings, and the Rochester Americans, where he was a treasured executive club member and season ticket holder. His enduring love for the band Journey resonated throughout his life.

Friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, August 6, 2026, between 4-7 pm at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, situated at 2636 Ridgeway Ave. Services will continue on Friday at 11 am at The Chapel of Peace at Riverside Cemetery, 2650 Lake Avenue, Rochester, NY 14612.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester, or to the dedicated research efforts at Johns Hopkins Medicine's Myelitis and Myelopathy program, honoring Jeff’s memory. May his spirit be celebrated and his life remembered with fondness and admiration.
