Joachim Benno Genditzki
Joachim was born in Enzberg, Germany in 1954 to his parents Elfriede & Benno Genditzki. At the age of 10 he started learning the art of fencing in Enzberg, Germany. At 16 years old, he attended fencing school in Munich where he obtained his International Fencing license. He taught fencing in Muhlacher to high school & college students. He took part in many international tournaments from 1971 to 1973. In 1975 he came to the United States on a Tool & Die makers contract. He taught fencing in Wabasch College Indiana, Clarkson College, Massena, Canton ATC, the Warren Library & offered several education classes.
He enjoyed playing the guitar & harmonica for everyone. He was an avid inventor who liked to tinker in his shop on various projects. He was a practical jokester who loved to make people laugh, especially himself. Swimming and being near the water was a passion of his. When he was young he once swam across the Bodensee River from Germany to Switzerland. In more recent times he swam across Silver Lake at the camp in the Adirondacks & entered several fun local canoe races.
He worked for General Motors for over 30 years and was a very talented & skilled craftsman. He learned this skill at a trade school in Stuttgart Germany. He retired from General Motors in 2008.
Joachim passed away August 31st, 2014 at the age of 60 surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife Valli; children, Dan, Valida & Ben; 5 grandchildren, Brayden, Ethan, Brycen, Sophia & Emma Genditzki. He has a twin sister Jutta & two brothers Martin & Reiner Genditzki in Germany.
Visitation Hours will be held from 4-6 PM on Saturday September 6th, 2014 at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Ave., where A Celebration of his Life will follow the visitation at 6 PM.
