Jocelyne J. Smith passed away peacefully on July 13, 2016. She was 64.

Ms. Smith was born on September 17, 1951 in Fort de France, Martinique to her parents, Guy Joseph and Donatienne Bonjean. Jocelyne Joseph (Smith) originally migrated to the USA and lived in Brooklyn, NY where she met and eventually married Richard Smith before moving to Rochester, NY in 1982. She graduated from the University of Rochester with a master's degree in French Literature and taught as a professor and lecturer at the same university.

Ms. Smith was a devout Adventist with a passion for gardening. She was a caring mother and a cheerful grandmother.

Ms. Smith is survived by her mother, Donatienne Bonjean; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Aaron Lumba; granddaughter, Camryn Lumba; alongside with many loving brothers, sisters, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Richard Smith.

Visitation Hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday July 18th and a funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 19th at the Genesee Park Boulevard Seventh-day Adventist Church, 391 Genesee Park Blvd, Rochester, NY 14619. Her burial will follow the service at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Contributions may be made In Jocelyne's name to the Genesee Park Boulevard Seventh-day Adventist Church.
