Joe Surace Sr.

Passed away suddenly on September 20, 2026 at the age of 85.

Joe grew up as one of 10 children and married the love of his life in 1963, beginning their beautiful journey together. Joe was a hardworking and honest man who treasured his wife and family above all else, surrounding them with a lifetime of love and support. He continually worked to improve himself, holding several jobs before becoming a longtime carpenter with Local #85 and later a tradesman at General Motors, where he worked until retiring in 2000.

He was one of a kind, loving wholeheartedly, giving generously, and helping everyone-- whether he knew them or not. The family foreman, he was always offering guidance and seeking better ways to help in every situation. At times, he drove us crazy. He worried constantly about everyone he cared for. Joe enjoyed playing poker with family and friends, traveling with Marie, the love of his life of 63 years, to casinos, on cruises, and taking trips to Italy & Hawaii.

His passing leaves an immense void in the lives of everyone he touched, as he was truly one of the best.

Predeceased by his parents, Mary & Frank Surace; mother & father-in-law, Rose & Michael Loria; sisters & brothers-in-law, Mary (Joseph) Morabito, Anna Biondi, Geraldine (Alex) Berardicurti, Rose (Carl) Scarlata, Frances Surace, Libby Loria, Russell Loria; son-in-law, Richard N. LoMonaco.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marie A. Surace; son, Joseph (Piao Yue) Surace Jr.; daughter, Suzanne (Tony Girardi) LoMonaco & grandchildren, Richard LoMonaco, Chelsey LoMonaco, Mackenzie (Daniel) Don; 6 great-grandchildren, brothers, Fred (Elaine) Surace & Carmen Surace; brother-in-law, Michael Biondi; sister-in-law, Jean Markese; sisters, Josephine (Frank) Loiacano, Frances (Tom) Boskow, Marianna (Pat Cinotti) Surace; many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews & cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Monday September 28, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, New York, 14626.
