Age 86, a long time resident of Rochester, NY, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011, following a brief illness. He was married to the late Shirley Brandt Gouse for 35 years and more recently to the late Margaret Crabtree Anthony Gouse. Gouse was born June 18, 1925, one of six children of Charles Gouse and Hilda Melhenbacher Gouse. He grew up in Rochester, NY, and was a graduate of the University of Rochester. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Gouse used his training and background in chemical engineering throughout his long career as a design manufacturer and sales specialist of heat exchanger devices for the Pfaudler Company, a division of Sybron Corporation in Rochester, NY and Elyria, OH, and later with the Astro Metallurgical Corporation of Wooster, OH. He was an active businessman and friend in the Rochester, Elyria, and Wooster communities. Gouse is survived by son Dr. John Conrad Gouse, Jr. and wife Sue of Savannah, GA; daughter Barbara Brandt Casey and husband Michael of Orrville, OH; daughter Laura Hutson Jarne, ND, and husband Thomas of Stockholm, Sweden; daughter Martha Allyn Barry of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandchildren, Erin Rebecca Casey of Chicago, IL; Lauren Marie Casey of Miki, Japan; Katherine Hutson Gouse of Savannah, GA; Matthew Vincent Barry and Elizabeth Marlena Barry of Poughkeepsie, NY; sister Anne Grimm and husband James of Columbus, OH; sister Mary Kummerow of Ontario, NY; brother, Thomas Gouse and wife Jeanne of Webster, NY; cousins, nieces, nephews, stepgrandchildren, and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory Fallis Gouse; his wives, Shirley and Margaret; sisters, Jean Gouse and Patricia Gouse; and an infant grandaughter, Elise Shirley Jarne.
Calling hours for family and friends will be at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00p.m. Interment will be Thursday, August 18, 2011, 1:00p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster, Ohio with a graveside family service and clergy from the First Presbyterian Church of Wooster, OH, officiating.
