Passed away on September 18, 2025 after his battle with cancer.
Born on July 9,1940 in Hornell, NY, John attended Hornell High School where he met his wife, Carol Padgett Guild, of 63 years. He graduated from Alfred University earning his bachelor's degree. He went on to become a research chemist and spent his career working for Eastman Kodak Company where he had several patents awarded.
John was an outgoing person who made friends wherever he went. He was generous, hardworking and always willing to pitch in and lend a hand where help was needed. As an active member of the Greece United Methodist Church, he had served as a trustee and usher, developing many lifelong friendships along the way. During the summer John loved to golf, fish, and spend time with family and friends at the family cottage on Silver Lake.
And, when autumn rolled around, he could be found on Sunday cheering on the Buffalo Bills. He and his wife, Carol, would become snowbirds in the winter heading south to Florida visiting family along the way.
Predeceased by his parents, Harold and Martha [Zschoche] Guild; brother, Robert [Cathy] Guild. He is survived by his wife, Carol [Padgett] Guild; daughters, Sue Guild, Jennifer [Steve] Ranck and Leah [Eamon] McCormack; grandchildren, Addison, Alexander, and Marin; sisters, Joan [Gordon] Fox and Caroline [Jerry] Ernst; as well as many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Greece United Methodist Church, 1924 Maiden Ln # 1, Rochester, NY 14626. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lipson Cancer Institute.
We find comfort in knowing that John's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
