John J. Hoder
Scottsville NY, formerly of Colonie and Avon, passed peacefully away on June 1, 2014, at age 63. A beloved son and brother, he is predeceased by his father John P. and is survived by his mother Emma; (Holzer) and siblings Joan (James), Geraldine (Greg) and Andrew (Judy); nieces Karen and Lisa and Christine; nephew Andrew (Gretchen); a grandnephew and cousins.
Recently retired as a teacher from Avon Central School after a tireless career of dedication to students, parents and colleagues; he was a tireless force in the Avon Teacher's Association serving in every capacity at the local, regional, and state levels. A lifelong learner with a high regard for the dignity of others, John was a strong supporter for Western New York's Partners in Restorative Initiatives Program.
He regularly attended church at St. Mary's of the Assumption in Scottsville, NY, and enjoyed the news from local Public Television. He enjoyed visiting Hemlock Lake, Hamlin Beach, Letchworth State Park and was especially fond of the Ganondagan State Historic site.
Family will receive friends for a memorial service 1PM - 3PM on Sunday July 13, 2014 at the Newcomer Funeral Home, West Rochester Chapel, 2636 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626.
