John W. Wagner, born on January 5, 1925, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, having lived 101 remarkable years filled with service, creativity, and devotion to his family and passions.

John’s life was distinguished by dedication to both profession and country. He served his nation as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II, demonstrating courage, commitment, and leadership that defined the greatest generation. After his honorable military service, John built an accomplished career as a senior designer at Xerox. His innovative mind led to several patents with the company, reflecting his drive to solve problems and improve the world around him.

Outside his professional achievements, John was a man of many talents and interests. He was well known as a local landscape and portrait artist, earning various art awards for his work. Plein air painting (in the midst of nature) became both his creative outlet and means of sharing his deep appreciation for the outdoors with others. Bear hunting and travelling in Maine. John was a big fan of jazz titans Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman as well as boxing legends, Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—cigars, sweets, and time spent in the wilderness he cherished.

John’s warmth and wit made a lasting impression on all who knew him. His sense of humor and love for nature made people smile.

He is survived by his sons, John R. (Charlie) Wagner and Joseph W. (Patti) Wagner; his daughter, Mary Virginia Sippel; eleven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. John’s life was marked by strong family bonds, and he took pride in being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lily May; his daughter, M. Kathleen Wagner; and his parents, Francis and Florence Wagner. Their memories will forever remain a part of his own remarkable story.

John W. Wagner’s contributions to his community, his family, and his field leave a lasting memory that will be celebrated and cherished for generations to come.

A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
