Joseph E. Dailey

Joseph (Joe) Edgar Dailey, 95, passed away on July 2, 2025, in Rochester, NY. Born on May 11, 1930, affectionately known as Josie to those closest to him, he was known for his intelligence, sweetness, and a passion for knowledge, traits that endeared him to many throughout his life.

Joe attended East High School in Rochester, NY, where he began to develop his lifelong love for reading. This passion for knowledge only grew as he aged, leading him to amass an encyclopedic memory, particularly for trivia, which made him an engaging companion.

After high school, Joe served in the Coast Guard for three years. His time in the service not only instilled in him a sense of discipline and duty that he carried into his civilian career but also ignited a passion for travel.

Professionally, Joe dedicated 38 years to airport operations, beginning his career with Capital Airlines, which later became United Airlines. His commitment to ensuring safe and efficient airport operations earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Joe was a devout member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Rochester.

Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, he had a deep love for hockey and baseball. Joe was a lifelong fan of the Rochester Red Wings. Joe attended his first game at Silver Stadium at the age of 9 and continued to attend Red Wings games every year for over 80 years. He was an avid follower of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums. His love for bagpipe music saw him traveling frequently to Canada to enjoy live performances.

Joe had a deep appreciation for Broadway shows and classic movies. Among his favorites, "Pirates of Penzance" held a starring role in his personal soundtrack, a testament to his special fondness for its witty charm. He possessed an extraordinary memory for film, often recalling scenes and dialogue with remarkable precision. For Joe, beloved characters and iconic scenes were more than just entertainment—they were trusted companions, sources of wisdom, and reflections of his inner world.

Joe is survived by his brother, David Dailey, and David's wife, Charlotte, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Dailey, and Phillip's wife, Claire and his long-time and loving companion, Barbara Marcille of Picton, Ontario.

Joe’s absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him. In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, intellectual curiosity, and the deep impact he had on those around him.
