Joseph A. Vazzana died on December 18th, 2025 and the age of 101. Predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Anna Vazzana; wife of 63 years, Stella (Harcleroad); son, Anthony; sisters, Maria Carmelo, Mary, Nancy Bianchi, and Virginia Indivino; brothers, Vincenzo and Anthony. He is survived by his children, Joseph (Debra) Vazzana, David (Natalie) Vazzana, and Eileen (Louis) LaVilla; sister, Anna (George) Collichio; 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe served in the United States Army during World War II. He entered the army on March 19th, 1943 and attended basic training at Camp Gordon. He was a member of the 3rd Cavalry, Mechanized. The unit was sent to Le Havre and then began a march through France. He was captured at Metz. He was one of seven who were left alive and then captured. He had one brother who was killed in WWII on the same day he was taken prisoner. He was at the prison camp Stalag 7A in Meusburg, Germany, south of Munich, for approximately seven months. He was liberated by the 14th Armored Division before being sent to Lake Placid for rehab and the eventually to Fort Dix for discharge.
On May 30th, 1950, he married Stella Harcleroad. Together they had four children, Joseph, David, Eileen, and Anthony (Tony). Unfortunately, Tony passed in 1986 at the age of 29 of leukemia. Joseph and Stella remained at the family homestead, taking care of his parents while raising their children. Joe was employed at Glenwood Sales where he retired in 1981, then went on to sell cars with his sons.
