Josephine S. Coy passed away on June 25, 2026 at the age of 97. She was predeceased by LaVerne, her husband of over 70 years. She was the mother of Gerald (Mary) Coy, Carol Coy, Nancy Coy, and Bruce Coy (deceased at infancy); grandmother of 13; great-grandmother of 28; and great-great-grandmother of three.
She was a patient mom who, on many an evening, dutifully reviewed spelling words or multiplication flash cards with her children, who were sometimes willing and sometimes not-so-willing.
She spoke with great joy about her working years, starting at age 14 at S.S. Kresge department store (which later became Kmart). She was an Eastman Kodak secretary, Tupperware and Avon salesperson, McCurdy’s office employee, Security Trust bank teller, and office manager of Garage Door Repair. She was a fastidious record keeper with a keen attention to detail.
As a lifelong devoted Catholic, Josephine was the spiritual watchdog of the Coy family, attending St. Charles Borromeo Parish for over 60 years. She was never late for Sunday Mass or a holy day of obligation service. As a sign of her dedication to her faith, she became a Third Order Carmelite. When she was unable to attend church during her later years, she watched televised Mass.
She enjoyed a good conversation and stayed remarkably well-informed about current events, world and national news, sports, and politics.
Thanks to the staff of Elderwood Village at Greece and St. Ann’s Community, her final home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30am on Wednesday, July 1st at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 3003 Dewey Ave.
