Passed away on July 20, 2026 at the age of 77.
Predeceased by her, father, Richard I. Slater & mother, Elizabeth I. Murray.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Lawrence Smith; her children, Brian (Heidi) Stanton, Todd Stanton, Kevin (Melissa) Stanton; step-daughter, Courtney (Karl) Pashalidis; grandchildren, Lilyanna, Abigail, Brock, Trevor, Evan & Aiden; siblings, Richard (Nirmala) Slater, Suzanne French, Daniel (Gloria) Slater & Stanley Slater; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graduate of Columbia University, Judy built a career as a NICU nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital, where she spent 20+ years caring for newborns and supporting their families. Outside of work, she enjoyed singing alto in her choir, playing the piano, and traveling. She encouraged her husband, Larry, to step outside his comfort zone, and together they explored destinations well beyond the United States and Canada.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday July 29, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Boulevard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, check back for more details.
Interment will be held privately at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road.
