July 11, 2025, Monroe County native, K. Elizabeth (“Beth”) Haggerty (Hernon) passed away at her home in Brighton, New York.
Beth is predeceased by her brother, Charles Grant; parents, James T. Hernon and Bette Hernon (Shoff) and aunt, Mae Ligotti and uncle, Lou Ligotti.
Born on April 7, 1947, Beth was a Mercy High graduate whose 20-year reunion theme was “Still the Same”, an acknowledgment of her unique and unwavering style and character, as well as her “uniform” of Frye Boots, blue jeans, and white dress shirt that saw her through social, commercial, and educational settings. At the age of seventeen, she was booked to sing and play guitar in one of Rochester’s early avant-garde clubs, La Galerie, on Main and Broad. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many of the arts, in particular the songs of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Gordon Lightfoot, and Bruce Springsteen. She also enjoyed reading, with a special affinity for the works of Virginia Woolf. She loved movies and could easily quote the dialogue from many of her favorite films. She enjoyed the company of all animals, especially cats.
Beth was also an educator of elementary and special needs students. Her dedicated years at School of the Holy Childhood were testament to her character. She received a B.A. from SUNY Rochester and was co-owner of HLF Pharmacy for many years.
Beth's compassion, loyalty, and generosity to family and friends was unflagging over the years of her life, and her unique spirit and joie de vivre will be warmly remembered for years to come.
