Katharine Shippen Chace "Young"

Katharine S. Chace was loved by many and had a heart for helping others. She advocated for children’s access to education and believed deeply in the importance of kindness. She delighted in babies, cherished her cats, and found joy in quilting and gardening. She treasured her time with her children and her partner, Steve, and she brought laughter, intelligence, and a sharp sense of humor to all who knew her. To know her was to know love.

Kate courageously fought cancer for 20 years. She faced every challenge with grace and strength, and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She is lovingly remembered by her partner, Stephen Werner; her daughters, Courtney Smith (Tariq Smith) and Olivia Young (Zach Hall); her son, Peter Young (Stephanie Young); her grandchildren, Cora Smith, Lincoln Young, Levi Young, and Landon Young; her bonus children, Rose McLaughlin (Chris McLaughlin) Katy Werner; her bonus grandchildren Ahleina and Werner McLaughlin, and her sister, Elizabeth Chace; and her nieces and nephew, Erin Morris, Lindsay Pantaleo, Adam Miller.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, James C. Young; her mother, Claire Kremer; her father, James Chace; and her sisters, Bevan Chace and Margaret Chace. Her family was the center of her life, and her love extended to all who knew her.

The family will receive friends 3-6pm Thursday September 25, 2025 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd. (corner of Culver Rd.)

On Friday morning, friends may assemble at St Jerome's Church, 207 Garfield St, East Rochester, NY 14445 for her mass of Christian burial at 9:30 am. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers friends may make contributions to The American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research.
