Larry retired from Monroe County after multiple years of service as an accountant. He continued to run his own business preparing taxes for people over the years and giving financial and business advice.
His family treasures memories of Larry on a bike. What began as family bike rides with babies in bucket seats progressed to running up and down the street teaching kids to ride their own bikes. Eventually, we all graduated to lengthy bike rides through the town of Greece, occasionally battling the added challenge of a flat tire or an extra long hill.
Larry’s love of classic cars translated into working on the family cars and passing his knowledge (with varying degrees of success) down to his daughters, son in laws, and grandchildren. What started as “hold the flashlight” grew to learning the basics of car repair and maintenance, which then transferred to learning basic home repairs as well.
Larry also enjoyed annual camping trips with his family, often navigating the lake by boat to cherished views, stops, and fishing locations. He was always the one putting the worm on the hook (and taking the fish off the hook) while the kids got the glory of “the big catch.” He was also known for his big camp breakfasts consisting of eggs, homefries, bacon/ sausage and toast. We never left the table hungry or needed lunch as long as those breakfasts were made.
Larry’s favorite pastimes included playing golf and teaching his kids/ grandkids the game, spending time with his daughters, son in laws, and grandkids at the range target shooting, and teaching his daughters the game of chess (and later engaging in games with his grandson). He was also a ravenous reader (especially loving economics books) and loved to talk about politics and world events.
Larry and his wife, Becky, frequented different restaurants enjoying the local cuisine. Summertime meant walking the pier in Charlotte and enjoying concerts there on Wednesdays. Throughout the rest of the year, they enjoyed road-tripping to visit various state and national parks, and traveling to see family out of state.
