Leonora Amanda Tyler
Greece, New York: Leonora Amanda Tyler passed away peacefully at her home in Greece, New York on January 6th, 2013.
Born May 7, 1930, in Onchiota, Franklin County; she was the youngest child of Clarence and Ella (Tucker) Tyler. Her family later moved to Vermontville and she was a 1949 graduate of Saranac Lake High School. She is predeceased by her parents and also her siblings George (Mary), Clarence, Wesley (Theresa), Geneva (Fred), and Katherine.
Survivors include her son, Stephen (Colleen), and grandchildren Chase, Elijah, and Max of Greece, her sister-in-law, Joyce (Clarence) Tyler of Brockport, her close cousins Martha Tyler John and Mary Ellen Goff Keith of Vermontville, long-time friend Mescal Thomas of Vermontville, and many other beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank her dear friend and helper these past few years, Liz Bracken of Greece.
She was retired from the Eastman Kodak Company where she worked as an inspector in the Photographic Processing Division. She had also been employed in Rochester by GM/Rochester Products and the City School District, as well as at the Northside - West Ridge School daycare. In addition to the North Country and Rochester, Leonora resided briefly in Quincy, Mass., and Troy, N.Y.
In Rochester, Leonora long attended Immanuel Church of the Nazarene until joining her son at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in her later years. She enjoyed playing piano and organ and singing hymns all through her life and had performed with her sister Katherine on local radio shows before leaving the Adirondacks. She will be remembered for the pet cats she was fond of, and having grown up around farms and woods, she enjoyed anything related to nature and wildlife.
A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held Friday, January 11th, at 11 AM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Avenue, in Greece. Interment will be at Falls Cemetery at the family's convenience.
