Lou Favreau (Caron), affectionately known as Lou to most and sometimes as Lucy or Lulu, passed away suddenly on July 2, 2026, in Rochester, New York, at the age of 81. Born on June 22, 1945, in Auburn, Maine, Lou lived a life defined by love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Lou’s professional career was marked by her hard work and determination. As a chef over the years, she contributed her talents to several organizations, including Vince Peron's, Furman University, the Greenville Hilton, the Peace Center, and the Greenville Hospital System. At the hospital system, Lou played a pivotal role as a director, contributing to the design, construction, and management of their kitchens and food services.
A devout Roman Catholic, Lou was deeply committed to her faith community at St. Mary’s Church in Holley, New York. She exemplified servant leadership through her active involvement in church initiatives. Whether organizing pizza-making fundraisers (often enlisting her sons’ help at dawn) or contributing to the women’s club and holiday bazaars, Lou’s selflessness left a lasting impression on those around her. She also supported St. Mary’s Catholic School and extended her generosity to the Fancher Hulberton Murray (FHM) Fire Company and various 4-H programs. As a cooking and baking judge for 4-H events, she shared her expertise in international cuisine while mentoring others. Her contributions extended further into her community through involvement in school plays, music boosters, and even serving as a French translator for a Drum and Bugle Corps.
Lou’s passions were as vibrant as her fierce personality. She found immense joy in cooking, particularly international dishes, and was always ready to prepare a meal with warmth and enthusiasm. Her garden was both a source of sustenance for her family, and a reflection of her care and patience. She cherished tending to her rose bushes and gathering wild strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries near her home. She loved bargain shopping at flea markets, garage sales, and dollar stores. Staying active through Jazzercise classes brought her energy and joy, while swimming offered moments of peace. She delighted in watching cardinals and hummingbirds visit her garden feeders - birds that held a special place in her heart.
Lou’s love of food extended beyond the kitchen; she used it as a way to promote health and well-being among those she cared for and at work. Her generosity knew no bounds; not only through material contributions but also through the time she freely gave to support others in need.
Above all else, Lou was a devoted wife to David Favreau for 63 years, worked tirelessly to ensure their three boys were well-fed and could enjoy memorable trips to visit family in Massachusetts and Maine. Her children include Timothy (Shannon), Eric (Julie), and Mark. Lou’s grandchildren are Kendra and Diana. Predeceased by her parents and sister Lorraine Chouinard, Lou leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In honor of Lou’s memory, consider placing a hummingbird feeder, planting roses, or donating to a food shelter - a tribute to the beauty and care she brought into this world.
May Lou Favreau’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her as they reflect on the remarkable life she lived so generously and fully. A memorial mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Greece, New York, on August 8, 2026, at 10:00 am. An intimate reception will be held afterwards.
