Margaret Smith

September 28, 1920 — October 18, 2013

Smith, Margaret (Peg) Marie

Webster: Went to be with the Lord October 18, 2013 at age 93 after an extended illness. She is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, James; by her sons Daniel (Susan) and children Jessica (David) Gazzaniga and their children Kyle, Isabela, Rachel, John and Luke; Rachel (Dermot) Caffrey and their children Ruadhri, Lauren and Elizabeth, and Andrea (John) Lareau and their children Oliver and Rebecca; Lawrence (Judy) and children Heather (deceased) and Courtney (Karl) Pashalidis and their children Trevor, Evan and Aiden; Robin (Sharalyn) and their children Joshua (Rachael) and their children Tate and Campbell and Justin (Amanda) and their children Lincoln, Ainsley and Vaughn; Joel (Deborah) and children Shawna, Brenton, Kara (Zackary) Riedl and their children Kylie, Cooper, Addison and Kallen, and Candice (Andrew) Boskill and their child Elle; Tedd (Lori) and their children Allison(Alan) Smith, Matthew and Douglas. The family would like to acknowledge the special care provided by Peg's team of aides, led by Tina Bianca.

Clearly Peg's first love was her family. Peg's energy, skill and devotion were, however, also poured out in seven decades of music ministry. Early training at East High, Eastman, and Houghton College helped to refine her God-given gift of voice. Though she was often a featured soloist for major classical works performed in Western New York, she chose to devote the largest part of this exceptional talent to the Lord's work. The Youth for Christ ministry was a particular focus where she provided solos for radio broadcasts on WROC, YFC rallies and summer camps, and traveled throughout WNY with the Christianaires and Joy Singers. In 1988 she received the President's Award from YFC/USA.

Peg also was the foundation of the alto section at Brighton (later Browncroft) Community Church for over five decades. In her later years Peg (along with Dody Fuessler, accompanist) brought the joy of music to many area nursing homes.

Private services have been held. A public celebration of Peg's life will be held at Browncroft Community Church, Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Youth for Christ USA, PO Box 4478, Englewood, CO, 80155-4478 Acct # 30585.
