Sunday August 24, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Marilyn (McRay) Simmons, who went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends in Rochester, New York.

Marilyn was born on January 6, 1959, in Ozark, Alabama, to the late Huey McRay and Mary Lee (Gipson) McRay. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Katrina Clark, and her nephews Tyrone McRay and Cairo McRay.

She leaves to cherish her memory her eldest son Jonathan King-Cretot and his husband Fabrice, of Arcadia, Florida; her daughter Javonnta Simmons, her life partner Duane Everett, and their children, Mylin Everett and Brylin Everett, of Rochester, New York. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Diane Dixon (Lynton), Rosa Lee Hurtt (Clinton), Delores (McRay) Haynes (Vic), Charlene (McRay) Clark, and Debra Ann McRay; her brothers Huey McRay Jr. (ShirleyAnn) of Rochester and Jimmy McRay of Poughkeepsie, New York; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Marilyn was the very definition of a warm and giving spirit. She was known for her kind soul, her willingness to help others — often literally giving the shirt off her back — and her unwavering dedication to family and friends. She loved her children beyond measure and took immense pride in her two grandchildren, who were her greatest joy.

A gifted cook and a natural nurturer, Marilyn’s kitchen was often filled with laughter, the aroma of homecooked meals, and the comfort of togetherness. Her sudden departure leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her, but her love, compassion, and example will live on forever in our hearts.

We will remember Marilyn for her love of cooking, her devotion to family, and her steadfast friendships. She was a stand-up woman of faith, strength, and love who will be dearly missed and eternally beloved.

As we honor her life, we are comforted by the Word of God:

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7

The family will receive friends 1-3pm Friday August 29, 2025 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave. (west of Long Pond Rd.)

Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her mother, Mary McRay in Grove Place Cemetery at a future date.
