Marilyn A. Trifiro

"Marilyn Trifiro, a lifelong resident of Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully at home on September 13th at the age of 85.

She is survived by her three children, Nicholas Trifiro, Joanne DeGroff (Peter), and Peter Trifiro (Megan); her four grandchildren, Marie, Salvatore, Alexander, and Christopher; her beloved big sister, Angela Massuzzo (Frank) of Hollywood, Florida; her dear nephew, Frank Massuzzo (Carla); nieces Maryann Busacca and Sherry Fiori (Anthony) of Florida; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Frances (Locastro) Longo, and by her former husband, the late Salvatore Trifiro.

Born in Rochester in 1941, Marilyn was a 1958 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and later earned a business degree from Rochester Business Institute. As an adult, she and her family were lifelong members of St. Pius X Church.

Marilyn spent many years working in administrative services, including positions with Eastman Kodak and Caruso Electric, while always making her family her priority. She worked hard to make sure her children were cared for, supported, and given every opportunity she could provide. That care extended beyond her own children, as their friends were always welcome and many came to know her simply as “Mom.” Her home was a place where there was always room for one more, and she loved feeding whoever happened to be there—whether it was chicken cutlets, Sunday sauce, potato salad, you never left hungry.

As the years went on, family remained at the center of Marilyn’s life. She loved her movies, her “soaps,” and especially anything involving Barbra Streisand or Robert Redford, but she was happiest being part of what was happening with the people she loved. She kept up with everything her kids and grandchildren were doing, celebrated their accomplishments, and took great pride in each of them.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her caregivers, Denise Lattimore-Williams, Jeanice Ralley-Lucien, Krystal Nesbitt, and Mary Croce. Their care, patience, and companionship gave Marilyn more time at home and, most importantly, more time with the family she loved. What they gave Marilyn—and her family—meant more than words can adequately express.

Marilyn leaves behind a lifetime of memories in the home she opened to so many and in the family she loved so deeply. We were blessed to have her as long as we did, and she will be deeply missed.

Calling hours will be held Monday, September 21, with interment on Tuesday, September 22.
