Born in Villafranca Sicula (Sicily), Mario immigrated to the United States in 1949 where he met his high school tutor and sweetheart soon-to-be wife in Brooklyn, NY. He enlisted in the US Army in 1953 and served 2 years during the Korean War. While serving in the Army, he became a US Naturalized Citizen. Shortly after leaving the Army, he married his high school sweetheart, settled in Queens, NY, had 4 children and eventually moved to Rochester to be closer to family in the mid 1970s.
Mario held several jobs throughout his life from insurance salesman to construction worker to airline cargo agent to photographer and to maintenence worker. However his passion and lifelong career, if you would ever ask him, is being a professional photographer for 50+ years. Mario received a degree in photography in 1958 and to say that he loved photography would be an understatement. He loved people, loved making pictures come to life and loved helping people preserve their memories. Photography wasn't just a camera and photographs, to him it was art, it was life, it was something to be captured. If you can imagine anything or any event that needed photographing, then Mario probably did it. He was a man of few words except when it came to photography but when he did speak, it was with great knowledge, filled with facts and usually contained a life lesson somewhere in the conversation. Mario was a member of the Professional Photographers of America and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
