Martha J. Schulmerich, born on January 15, 1933, in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Rochester, NY. She was a remarkable woman who leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories cherished by her family and those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Martha was renowned for her strong personality and unwavering self-will; she was a woman who knew what she wanted and pursued it with determination. Her fierce love for her children—her proudest accomplishment—was the core of her being. Martha had a profound faith, loving Jesus deeply, which was a guiding force in her life.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, regularly indulging in her hobbies of crocheting, playing bingo, shopping, and enjoying lunches with loved ones. Many fond memories will be forever held by her family, particularly those involving their outings to craft shows all over the city—a testament to her vibrant spirit and enthusiasm for creativity.
Martha is survived by her three beloved daughters, Patricia (David) Schwab, Brenda Schillaci, and Annie (Arnie) LaRocca; and her son, Daniel (Johnnie) Schulmerich. Her legacy will continue through her grandchildren, Danielle (Joe) Passamonte; Adam Schulmerich; Michael Maier; Dante, and Joey LaRocca; and great grandaughter, Ella Passamonte, who will carry forward the lessons of love, determination, and faith she imparted.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Schulmerich; her parents, Margaret and Norman French; and several brothers.
Martha's memory will be honored in a graveside service at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 250 Coldwater Road in Rochester, NY, where she will be laid to rest Saturday Feb. 7th at 10 AM.
Her Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, March 28th, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Calvary Assembly of God 3429 Chili Ave. Chili, NY 14624.
Martha J. Schulmerich's life was a celebration of family, resilience, and devotion. Her vibrant spirit and lasting impact will be missed but never forgotten.
